Segovia: Response to Tragedy of Vietnam

I actually enjoyed the book more than I thought I would before reading it. I guess I was pretty ignorant about the subject. I don’t actually recall going over Vietnam much in school. If we went over Vietnam, I doubt that it was in detail. I really like how the book was structured. It gave us all the information from the beginning of times in 111 B.C, where Vietnam became a Chinese colony, up to the war in the mid 1900's. I think the author did this so we can actually have a full understanding of why things occurred a certain way. Vietnam has been colonized by the Chinese, the French and has had internal conflict as well. The author introduced this information as a rise to the climax, which was the war in the mid 1900's. I am sure we can all make some sort of connection to the history of Vietnam because it’s just so much behind it and so much happened here in America as well. I have a different perspective about Vietnam now and feel a lot better just talking about that subject. I think this class will be very interesting and I look forward to learning more as we go along.
