I've always been a big history fan. During high school, I received an almost minimal education on the war in Vietnam. Most of the education I received on Vietnam was through movies like Apocalypse Now or Forrest Gump. From those two movies alone, I gained a great interest in this conflict.
The Tragedy of Vietnam unlocked new insight to the Vietnam war. It offered a different perspective on the war that one would not be able to find in that generic history book. This book brought the conflict to a new light by providing all the background information in a very well structured manner. I was fascinated with all the information about the French colonialization of Vietnam. Until this class, I honestly knew nothing about this period of time. This book put the history of a country into less than 200 pages without losing the interest of this reader.
I am really excited to learn more about the US involvment in Vietnam. I actually watched The Fog of War this summer for a history class and highly recommend all of you to watch this or read about Robert McNamara.
